Two women visitors from New Jersey were rescued this morning after spending
the night stranded on the Waiomao Stream trail in Palolo Valley.
The women, ages 29 and 28, called for help about 8:30 last night but had to
wait to be rescued because of unsafe conditions for a helicopter rescue,
said Capt. Richard Soo. They were airlifted off the trail at 6:12 this
morning.
Fire rescue crews this morning suspended their search for missing hikers
above Manoa Falls. The search began last night after another hiker reported
that he heard someone cry for help. Firefighters found two bicycles chained
at the entrance to the trail but could not locate any signs of hikers.
